FILM SUBMISSION

• The next SFIFF to go down the last weekend of January of 2009, starting 1/30/09

• Early Bird Submissions for next years festival to start as soon July 2008.

• However you can submit films for internet viewing as of April 2008. Contact : jon@gotfilm.org

• The 2009 Festival will include an Internet element. With Winners chosen from Internet Submissions, Voted in by the web.

• Just like previously Cash Prizes to be awarded to all winners and runner ups. 2009 will see an increase in the prizes awarded.

• Films must be in specified format and no longer than 18 minutes. All genres will be welcomed, however they will be judged on an individual basis, and under set criteria.

This year's festival went down great. We had Films entered from as far as Los Angeles. Of the 42 shorts entered 12 were chosen for the main screening at the upscale Colony Theater.

These 12 films were all over the genre map. We had a rollercoaster of emotions through comedy, drama, and suspense. One minute laughing at a guy at risk of loosing an eye, the next angry at society, only to go back to laughing at death himself.
  
We had attendees from as far as West Palm Beach and Port St Lucie. With a more than professional staff at the Colony Theater, it was almost impossible for anything to go wrong. However, we were running on "Miami Time" so the formal 20 minute delay was almost mandatory!! Not a problem, since the audience got to sit back and listen to the soul enriching sounds of classically trained guitarist and UM alumni Ryoji Yamaguchi  <ryojiy@hotmail.com>.
  
At the end of the screening trophies were given out to all that screened as well as the announcements of the winning and runner up films. They were as follows:

REGISTRATION

The next SFIFF to go down the last weekend of January of 2009, starting 1/30/09.Early registration fee will start at about half off during this time ($50 US dollars).• Regular registration will begin on November 23, 2007 through December 14, 2007.

MEET THE FILMMAKERS:

Salah Zouaghi - Director & Writer of the film "TOLERANCE" winner of first place under the audience vote .

Salah Zouaghi is a South Florida independent filmmaker. Born and raised in the capital Tunis of Tunisia in North Africa. Holder of a Business Degree in Science of business administration from the University of Phoenix and Graduate of the Palm Beach Film School. Salah just finish directing his short film titled “TOLERANCE" produced in association with the Palm Beach Film School, the film was released on September 25, 2007 and Won the first place in the South Florida Film Festival 2008. Salah is currently resident of the state of Florida and a freelancer director of photography serving the 3 major cities of South Florida " Miami - Fort Lauderdale - Palm Beach ".

 

  David Navarre is a Michigan native who began his film career at the age of five by acting in television commercials and a feature film called Hoffa. David did his undergraduate work at New York University and received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Psychology and Cinema Studies. In
May 2007 he received a Master in Fine Arts in Film Production from the University of Miami where he concentrated on directing and cinematography. He draws most of his influences from the great filmmakers of classical Hollywood cinema, Billy Wilder, John Houston, Elia Kazan, and Orson Welles. Currently, David is living in Los Angeles and is involved in commercials, reality television, and has worked on the upcoming films Iron Man and Twilight. ?

 

Alberto Veloso was born and raised in Miami, Florida.  He graduated with a Bachelor’s of Arts in English from Florida International University and is currently pursing a M.F.A. in Creative Writing.  Previously, Alberto won first place in the Investor’s Screenplay Contest, and currently has a feature film in pre-production with Bait Man films.  As a graduate of The Palm Beach Film School, he wrote and directed his short film, “One Night Stand,” which won second place in the So Fla Indy Film Festival.  He is currently in development on his second short film.
